Parker Straus, LLP Sponsors OK IASIU Medical Issues Training Conference
August 10, 2017, Oklahoma City, OK— The Oklahoma Chapter of the International Association of Special Investigations Unit’s (OKIASIU) Medical Issues Training Conference was held on August 10, 2017, in Oklahoma City. Parker Straus, LLP, was the major sponsor for this event, and Michael Parker, Managing Partner of Parker Straus, LLP, presented a class on medical fraud trends. Additionally, Parker served as one of the conference’s qualified panelists.
The OKIASIU Medical Issues Seminar condensed months of continued education into one day for Oklahoma insurance licensees, CLEET members, Oklahoma Bar Association members and Oklahoma claim adjusters. Topics covered included:
- “Corrective Chiropractic Care vs. Non-Corrective Chiropractic Care,” by chiropractor, Dr. Shawna Ortiz
- “Low-Speed Biomechanics,” by Eric Mayes, a biomedical engineer for Rimkus Consulting
- “Oklahoma Insurance Department Anti-Fraud Unit,” by Robert Lee from Oklahoma Insurance Department
- “Trends in Soft Tissue Injury Medical Fraud,” by Michael Parker from Parker Straus, LLP
The conference granted six hours of Oklahoma CE credit to Oklahoma claim adjusters and producers, six hours of CE to CLEET members and six hours of MCLE to Oklahoma Bar Association members.
“A large reason for the success was the support OKIASIU received from the Parker Straus, LLP law firm,” said Shaun Spaeth, OKIASIU President. “Michael Parker provided a very well received and beneficial program concerning how to investigate and evaluate a medical claim from any type of medical provider.” Spaeth also said that OKIASIU is looking forward to future involvement with Parker Straus, LLP.
